what's a
Microdose?
a microdose is a subpercptible amount of psilocybin, that's meant to be taken as part of regular regimen. "subpercieptible" means that if you're feeling it, then it's not a microdose. microdoses can range anywhere from 100mg to 200mg, depending on the potency of a particular mushroom. recent studies suggest that a 'standard' microdosing regimen can improve energy, mood, creativity, and focus. it can also help with anything from neuroinflammation to mental health disorders. it has shown success in relieving cluster headaches and migraines, treating OCD, PTSD, various mental health disorders, anxiety, addiction, and has even helped some users wean themselves from SSRIs. make sure to consult with your doctor before making any kind of changes to your medical care. for more information on how to get started, you can check out our comprehensive guide to microdosing, right here.
how's that different from
a Social
Dose?
a social dose (sometimes called a "recreational" or "party" dose) is enough to experience the psychoactive effects, but not so much as to become overwhelmed by them. a social dose may come with some mild visuals, but the prominent experience will mostly be euphoria, heightened senses, and sometimes a case of the giggles. this rec dosage typically ranges from 500mg to approximately 1.5 grams, but there are different variables that may affect the onset and strength of the experience. click this link for a more in depth look at the different dosing regimens.
so what's
a "Journey"?
journeys (aka therapeutic doses, or "trips") have been practiced across nearly every ancient culture and religion for thousands of years, using a wide range of "plant medicines". with psilocybin, a journey dose is typically achieved by consuming around 3.5 grams of dried mushroom bodies, although these experiences can be achieved with as little as 2 grams. one can expect to experience intense visuals and deep introspective thoughts, auditory hallucinations, alterations in the perception of time and space, and ego dissolution. because the effects can be quite profound and overwhelming, "journeys" should always be practiced with great consideration. it's important to prepare one's self before taking a psychedelic journey, so check out our complete guide to learn more.

The Heroic dose.
the term was popularized by renowned ethnobotanist and psychedelic pioneer, Terence McKenna, who described it as, "5 grams alone, in the dark, in silence, and with eyes closed". however, given the subjective and variable nature of psychedelics, it could take more or less than this to achieve a hero's journey. in general, the concept refers to a dose that is significantly higher than what is typically used for recreational or therapeutic purposes. for that reason, "Heroic Doses" should always be practiced with extreme caution by experienced practitioners. please refer to our complete guide to journeys before doing this on your own.
